Course Description –
Culture by Design: Building Healthy, Mission-Driven Organizations
Organizational culture does not happen by accident. It is shaped every day through leadership, communication, accountability, relationships, and the values an organization chooses to reinforce.
In today’s nonprofit environment, leaders are navigating increasing complexity, rapid change, staff burnout, generational shifts, and growing expectations from teams, boards, donors, and communities. Healthy organizational culture has become essential not only for retention and morale, but also for mission effectiveness and long-term sustainability.
In this interactive course, Dawn Reese and Chris Looney will explore what it takes to intentionally build and sustain a healthy, mission-driven organizational culture. Participants will examine the role leadership plays in shaping culture, how trust and alignment are created across teams, and the practical systems and behaviors can be evaluated that strengthen organizational health over time.
Together, participants will explore:
- The defining characteristics of healthy organizational cultures
- How leadership behaviors shape team dynamics and organizational trust
- Practical ways to strengthen communication, accountability, and alignment
- The connection between culture, employee engagement, and mission impact
- How to navigate cultural challenges during seasons of growth, change, and uncertainty
- Strategies for reinforcing values and creating cultures where people can thrive
This session will include practical insights, facilitated discussion, reflection exercises, and peer interaction designed specifically for nonprofit and social impact leaders.
Whether you are building culture intentionally for the first time or seeking to strengthen an existing team environment, this course will provide actionable guidance to help you lead with greater clarity, consistency, and purpose.
